Hypoxic-ischemic brain injury; Fetal origins of adult disease

Biography

Devaskar’s laboratory is focused on determining the role of glucose transporters in mediating neuronal function. This is being pursued by the generation of various transgenic and knock out mouse models and phenotypic characterization.

The second area is around delineating the role of hypothalamic leptin resistance during development in the future development of obesity, providing mechanisms towards the theory of “fetal origins of adult disease”. Various signal transduction pathways are being examined and dysregulation of these pathways contributing towards the subsequent development of obesity are being explored.
