Biography

Maidment’s research encompasses two main areas:

  • the neurochemical basis of motivated behavior with an emphasis on its role in addiction
  • the neurochemistry of basal ganglia function and their dysfunction in Parkinson’s disease

His laboratory uses a combination of approaches, from in vivo microdialysis, in vivo voltammetry and biosensors concomitant with behavioral analysis to primary cultures of dopamine neurons, to study the influence of abused drugs on mesotelencephalic dopamine, glutamate and opioid peptide systems in the brain.
